Life in Lagos, Nigeria: Aaron Rowe
A diary and musings from an Expatriate in Lagos
About Me
I have worked in Nigeria for more than six years, but since 2007 have been based back at home in the UK. I am studying at Open University and enjoying the challenge of balancing work, studying and play. I will surely return to Nigeria, if not for work, as one of the few tourists.

Hi Aaron
Nice to see ur post.Im sure u r doin good work there.I got job in nigeria I am coming there this month. Can u please advise about the safety level there .
Anxious to hear from u .
cheers ,

Well it all depends on what you're doing. If you are coming to work on oil fields down in the Niger Delta, thats south East of Nigeria, then I would suggest it is very risky.
The recent Riots all seem to take place in fairly rural areas or Northern areas. I haven't heard of anything significant in Lagos, Abuja or Port Harcourt the three major cities in Nigeria. I believe the situation has calmed down considerably and I will be surprised if there was another riot soon.
If you are not working for the oil industry, living in the major cities and generally keep your wits about you, then any safety risk is low. You should worry more about Malaria, Typhoid and the like.
Having said that most Expatriates working here are in oil related industries. Even the company I work for that mainly deals with water supply and mapping has had many contracts with Oil companies, but I personally have had very little involvement with them.
Feel free to drop me an email, my address is on my profile page.
